Better ideas need people who will test them. Tell us what problem you see, what evidence we have missed, who would be affected, and what you would do differently. We especially want to hear where a proposal could cause harm or where the costs are unclear.
You do not need to agree with our proposals or belong to a political group to contribute. We welcome practical ideas and thoughtful disagreement from people with different experiences across New Zealand.
Help improve this site
Email ideas@betterancestors.nz with an idea, correction, source, or worked example. Include the page you are responding to and say whether we may quote your feedback publicly. Please avoid sending private information about other people.
We will use the same questions for each developed idea: the problem, proposed change, cost, benefits, risks, evidence, and what could cause a revision. A message to this site is feedback to Better Ancestors; it is not a formal submission to Parliament.
Use Parliament's existing channels
- See bills and inquiries open for public submissions and learn how to make a submission. A submission goes to a select committee considering that matter.
- Start or support a petition to Parliament to ask the House to consider a public issue.
- Find and contact an MP to explain a local concern or ask them to examine an idea.
These channels have their own processes and deadlines. Check Parliament's current guidance before submitting.
We also propose a 100-person people's forum where randomly selected people could examine a major policy question together. That is a proposal for a future public institution, not a forum currently accepting applications.
